During the warmer months there are several excellent places to swim within a short walk or drive of our self catering accommodation in Quillan. From outdoor pools to scenic mountain lakes, these spots are perfect for cooling off on hot summer days.

Quillan Municipal Swimming Pool (400m)
A family-friendly outdoor swimming pool open during the summer months (typically June to August). Facilities include a large pool, children’s pool and sunbathing areas.

Axat Leisure Swimming Pool (9 km)
A pleasant outdoor pool in the nearby village of Axat, open during summer. Ideal for a relaxed afternoon swim after exploring the surrounding countryside.

Quillan Lake – Espace St Bertrand (2.3 km)

A newly developed recreational area with two lakes. One lake is designated for swimming, while the second hosts water activities including paddleboarding. A popular local spot with picnic areas and walking paths.

Belcaire Lake (30 km)

A scenic mountain lake in the Plateau de Sault, open for swimming during summer. The cooler altitude makes it a refreshing escape on hot days.

Montbel Lake (40 km)

One of the largest lakes in the region with beaches, swimming areas and beautiful mountain scenery. A great destination for a day trip.

Puivert Lake (15 km)

A classic local bar located on the main square with outdoor seating — perfect for aperitifs, a cold drink after a walk by the river, or casual evenings watching life in the square.

A neighbourhood brasserie-bar serving drinks and casual snacks in a relaxed environment — ideal for unwinding with friends or family before dinner.

(Note: Quillan is a small town — there are a few other small bars and seasonal venues in the centre and around summer markets.)

Quillan’s local cinema shows a mix of mainstream and art films, often in original version with French subtitles (V.O.). This one-screen cinema is a cultural hub for local film screenings and special events, including occasional film festivals such as CINESPAÑA (festival screenings of Spanish and Portuguese cinema).

Typical ticket prices are modest, and films are shown several times a week — a great option for a relaxed evening activity during your stay.

Quillan is a vibrant small town with cafés, bakeries, shops and markets all within easy walking distance. The town centre is centred around Place de la République and the River Aude, making it easy to explore on foot during your stay.

A traditional French open-air market selling fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, breads, meats, olives, clothing and regional products. It’s a great way to experience local life and pick up ingredients for a meal at the accommodation.

During the summer months the town also hosts seasonal night markets, fairs and festivals with food stalls, music and local crafts.

The main supermarket in town offering a full range of groceries, fresh produce, bakery items and household essentials.

A popular budget supermarket located just outside the town centre with a good selection of fresh food and everyday items.

Quillan has several traditional bakeries (boulangeries) where you can buy fresh bread, pastries and sandwiches each morning.
